Have you ever wondered whether one hugely successful team is better than another great side from a different era? FourFourTwo recently published an interesting ranking of the 50 teams across football history, attempting exactly that comparison. The list includes clubs and national teams that were right at the very top in a certain historical period. In this quiz, you’ll try to identify those teams.

Once you start the quiz, you’ll see the ranking position and the period in which the team thrived. If there’s an asterisk after the period, you’ll be guessing a national team. If you get stuck, the hint will reveal the country for clubs and the continent for national teams.

Please take the ranking with a pinch of salt — these things can’t be compared objectively.
